Narendra Modi is set to become the next Prime Minister of India after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) looked in course for a landslide victory in the Lok Sabha polls on Friday, surpassing the requisite 272-mark for a majority. The Congress, which has been in power, on and off, ever since Independence, is headed towards its biggest defeat in history, reduced to a little over 40 seats. With allies in tow, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is moving towards 340-odd seats that will give the ruling coalition enough leeway to push through legislations in the lower House of Parliament. As the world’s largest political exercise draws to a close with a thumping win for the nationalist party, The Hindu Centre for Politics and Public Policy presents a photo feature to capture the mood of the day.
